History

Originally built in 1890 as a modest structure, the house evolved over time through a series of additions. It was acquired and occupied by the architect/designer in 2012, allowing for several years of direct experience and an intimate understanding of the building.

A neighboring tree fell on the house in 2017, prompting a complete rethinking of the structure. Subsequent work removed poorly conceived additions and introduced a clear, modern intervention that improved the overall form and function of the house.

The project was carried out over multiple phases, reflecting an ongoing process of refinement and study. The current configuration represents a balance between preservation and transformation, with the rear lot intentionally positioned for future development. Zoning code changes in 2025 further enhanced the flexibility for a garage and accessory dwelling at the rear.
